Activity Preparation:

• Print a bulletin for everyone
• Gather enough pencils for everyone
• Have a large handkerchief or bandana available as a blindfold
• Create enough 6-inch star cutouts from yellow construction paper for everyone. Affix glue dots to the back of each
• Enlarge Panel 2 "An angel told the shepherds ..." from the bulletin, and attach it to the classroom wall
• Have a small prize available for the winner

Activity Directions:

1. Give everyone a bulletin and a pencil and have them complete the puzzle "An angel told the shepherds that a Savior had been born."
2. When everyone has solved the puzzle, read aloud Luke 2:1-20.
3. Explain the activity, "We know from other Bible stories about the birth of Jesus that a star in the night sky appeared to lead people to the infant Jesus in Bethlehem. Today, we'll play a version of Pin-the-Tail-on-the-Donkey, but instead of a donkey's tail, we'll use a star. Whoever can pin the star closest to the word 'Savior' on our picture on the wall will win a prize."
4. Proceed to blindfold the first player. Once blindfolded, turn him or her around at least three times. Hand the player a star onto which you've written the player's name and have him or her try to place it near the word "Savior" on the picture.
5. Continue until everyone has had a turn placing the star.
6. Award the player placing their star closest to the word "Savior" a prize.

Activity Preparation:

• Print a bulletin for everyone
• Gather enough pencils, colored pencils and blank paper for everyone

Activity Directions:

1. Give everyone a bulletin and pencil and have them complete the puzzle "There were shepherds living out in the fields … "
2. When everyone has finished the puzzle, have a volunteer read aloud the answer.
3. Have a helper distribute a blank sheet of paper and colored pencils to everyone while you read aloud Luke 2:1-20.
4. After reading the story, ask the class to name ways that the news of Jesus' birth might be spread if it were to happen today.
5. Explain the activity, "Today, we're going to imagine how one might get the news out about Jesus' birth. You can create the front page of a newspaper, complete with headline, picture of the new family and articles about the event; you can illustrate a news webpage; you can write a breaking news report about the event that might be read on the evening news or you can create, illustrate or write anything that might be used today to get the news out.
6. Allow everyone time to create their news piece.
7. Ask for a volunteer to share his or her finished work. Continue allowing volunteers to share their work until everyone who wants to, has had the opportunity.
8. Finish the project with a conversation about how God got the shepherds' attention when Jesus was born and how we need to be prepared for Him to get our attention when Jesus returns.
