This game allows visitors and shy students a way to participate without feeling awkward while still giving outgoing students a chance to excel. Class size can vary from 6-30 students and still work well.

Preparation:

1. Make 2 posters out of this game using your church copy machine's enlargement feature.
2. You will need:
   • Thumbtacks or masking tape to secure the 2 posters to the wall or bulletin board in your classroom.
   • 2 black markers, crayons or pens that will not go through the paper and leave marks on the wall.
   • A bag of small wrapped candy for class treats.
   • Copies of the bulletin for each student.

How to play:

1. The teacher reads these instructions:

   "Today we want to learn about the shepherds in Bethlehem. We are going to play a game about them. The object of this game is to be the first team to finish the puzzle. I will ask for 4 volunteers to lead our class in this puzzle solving event. Two will be on each team. The rest of the class will be divided on the teams also. The 2 volunteers will come up front and write on the posters. Their team mates will remain seated, but can call out encouragement and suggestions to them. The 2 at the front will record their team's ideas on the poster and try to solve the puzzle before the other team does. Only one of the 2 will have a marker. The one without the marker is the advisor. He/she also watches the other members of the team and gets their ideas to the one who is writing. I will pass out copies of the puzzle to everyone, so you can see it up close and help to solve it for your team."

2. Now the teacher explains how to play this puzzle. The teacher should point to the poster and tell them that the underlined words are the words to find in the puzzle.
3. Ask if there are any questions about the rules.
4. Divide the remaining students into 2 teams.
5. Ask for 4 volunteers to come forward.
6. Give each team a marker.
7. Pass out puzzles to everyone.
8. Yell, "GO".
9. Congratulate the winners.
10. Read the Scripture to the puzzle out loud and comment on it.
11. Give candy to the winning team or to both teams if it was a close game.
12. VARIATION: For extra-large classes, use 3 teams.
